Do you have a negtive scanner?
I have found a good cost-effective way is to set up your old slide projector and also set up your digi camera on a separate tripod, and literally photograph each image. I have not found much satisfaction with slide scanners on 35mm slides.

No I dont have a negative scanner - I don't even know what one is!! And no, I can't photgraph them as I have no projector for slides any more ............
I have a Veho scanner.

It's pretty good, bought online - I think it was 50 or 60 quid.

They hold their value and once I've converted all my slides ( and my uncle's!) I reckon I'll get 35-40 quid back on ebay.
You can sometimes get projectors from Freecycle (google it). Then do as Mosaic says.
