My husband was getting out of a taxi and the taxi door hit the side of a passing car, damaging the doors of both vehicles. Who is liable for the damage?

That's exactly what happened to me a couple of weeks ago. It was our private car that got hit - we're claiming the insurance from the taxi firm.

Tricky one without more details, but the taxi driver should have told you, if the road was clear, and it was ok to get out.
You're just hoping that nobody says "your husband"?!
I would think the taxi firm's insurance would be covering such incidents.

Sorry, driver should have told your husband.

Was the car coming towards the front of the taxi, or from the rear?
The taxi insurance will deal with it. Seems like a hazard of the trade.
That's what insurance is for. It covers the driver and any third parties - in this case your husband is a third party.
I take it your husband had Exit the taxi from the Drivers side? why? as said the insurance should cover it but I think your Husband contributed to this accident.
