a squealing ,squeaking loud on starting up and acceleration. tends to die down after 300/500 yds but not always. anybody help I would appreciate

Sounds like your alternator belt needs tightening. Also get your battery checked as the extra load on the alternator from a partly discharged battery can cause the alternator belt to slip and squeal as described.

Hi thanks to both of you for answers. Yes ! the alternator belts.... and water pump needed renewing...it was good to have an idea of what it was before going to garage. Job well done locally.£287..appx.that was £55. labour per hr. ! many thanks again
