Has anyone got any idea what the R stands for next to fuel gauge please? It flashes when fuel is low. Thanks.

Right side of car?
Sorry very bad communication right side where you put petrol in I think.

Thanks Gav, but the hole is on the left...but on the right if you're looking at the car from the front...;)
Reserve?

Oh thanks Tuvok, that's a possibility :)
Question Author
I do actually have the manual!
I would say (reserve)
Dunno about the "R" - but probably "reserve" ...

... however ... have you ever noticed that virtually every fuel gauge has a little arrow on it ...

... which tells you which side the filler cap is :)

Think Tuvok got it! Found on Renault Q+A site. Seems it does mean Reserve! And a flashing R is A Bad Thing! Apparently there would be a 2 if tank were full (never gonna happen ;) , and a 1 like there is now, then R means it's running on reserve :)
Thanks all

Gav.....you + me both....on the second day I used it I put fuel in it cos I thought the symbol showing was a petrol pump,.../ it was the door open sign cos I hadn't shut the boot properly ;)

the little arrows are quite new; our car, from very early this century, doesn't have one. My sister (who's a driver) pointed it out to me in her car, which is a lot more recent.
I suggest it is a warning to Refuel.
I had to drive an unfamiliar van to work. (might have been a Mercedes) Stopped for diesel. Looked for the filler cap on one side, nope. Looked on the other side, mmm, no. Walked around the van twice scratching my head. Opened the door to look for a manual and there was the cap inside the door. Strange idea, imo.
