The Twilight Saga

13:07 Wed 30th Jun 2010 |

The Twilight Saga is a thrilling romantic horror story. The films are based on the series of four vampire-based fantasy romance novels by American author Stephenie Meyer. Since the release of the first novel, Twilight, in 2005, the books have gained immense popularity and commercial success around the world.

Each film so far has been directed by a different person. This brings a little extra to the film but is not always a popular choice among the viewers who often remained loyal to the director of the first Twilight film. On the plus side, though, the films are very true to the books which endeared them to stalwart readers straight away.

The books follow the life of Isabella "Bella" Swan (Kristen Stewart). She moves to live with her father in Forks, Washington and there meets and falls in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) who is more than a hundred years old. He is part of a vampire coven that drinks animal blood not human blood.

Another important plot line in the saga is the choice Bella has to make between Edward and her best friend Jacob who has the ability to shape shift into a wolf. the author has admitted to taking inspiration from such famous works as Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream and  Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights.
