The Time Traveller’s Wife

16:34 Mon 28th Jun 2010 |

The Time Traveller’s Wife is a dramatic fantasy film. The film is based on the book of the same name by Audrey Niffenegger and directed by Robert Schwentke who is best known for Flightplan.  The film stars Eric Bana as Henry DeTamble and Rachel McAdams as his love interest Claire Abshire.

Viewers of the film had a mixed reaction as with many book adaptations and remakes. However, generally audiences were pleased with the effort. There is some worry that the visits of the much older Henry to the child Claire may be seen as grooming but this not an issue in the film. Both Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana carry their characters with convincing flare, and this completely makes the film.

Henry DeTamble is a self-destructive librarian who suffers from a rare genetic disorder that sends him hurtling through time whenever he is under extreme duress. He has no conscious control of when he leaves, where he goes or how long he stays. Despite this he attempts to build a stable future with the beautiful young heiress Clare Abshire. Claire has known Henry from the age of five since often his time travelling takes him to visit her during her childhood. However, when they meet in the ‘present’ he has no idea who she is and they fall in love in real time.
