The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is the third film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Based on the original book by JRR Tolkien the film is an epic of massive proportions. The film was directed by the renowned Peter Jackson and is one of the biggest box office hits of all time.

As the final in the trilogy the film was always bound for success as it finishes the story and ties up all the loose ends along the way. However, the Return of the King was much more than that and even die hard Tolkien fans were wowed by the stunning visual effects and superb acting from the cast.

The film won all 11 academy awards it was nominated for including Best Picture. The ensemble cast is stellar and helped to bring the film to life including Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchet, Liv Tyler, Ian Mckellan and Orlando Bloom.

The film develops the story of how the One Ring was lost to Sauron and how Sméagol (Gollum) found and kept it for centuries. Frodo and Samwise are now alone in Mordor and have to trick and fight their way to Mount Doom. Meanwhile the rest of the fellowship have their own battles and eventually gather at Minas Tirith to raise an army in order to distract the evil forces of Mordor and give Frodo a chance to destroy the ring.
