Is Miami Vice still being shown

01:00 Mon 18th Jun 2001 |

A.Miami Vice, the Eighties detective series, still has a worldwide audience through satellite and cable television in the UK and abroad. The show still has a massive following.

Q. Will they ever make a new series

A. Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs will come back to life soon, this time in a big-screen revival of the hit series. The show, which starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, is to follow the Seventies hit Charlie's Angels in being remade for cinema by United Pictures.

Johnson and Thomas made their mark by toting guns and chasing baddies through the mean streets in Miamia from 1984 to 1989. Johnson, then married to Melanie Griffith, sparked an Eighties fashion trend with his pastel-coloured jackets worn over T-shirts, designers stubble, shades and shoes without socks. The soundtrack of the series, which started as a two-hour made-for-television movie in 1984 and went on to win an Emmy award, even went to the top of the US album charts. It's unlikely Johnson and Thomas will play the characters that turned them into superstars.

Q. Who will play Tubbs and Crockett then

A. The roles will go to younger men. Mark Wahlberg, who made his name in Boogie Nights, Three Kings and Perfect Storm is being tipped to play Crockett, and Chris Rock, who appeared in Lethal Weapon 4 and Nurse Betty, could be offered the role of Tubbs. One rumour suggests Johnson and Thomas could be offered parts as their bosses in the film.
