Continuing from a post in Technology, I was wondering if anyone out there has a slower Broadband speed than me -

2.34 Download
0.38 Upload

Not really looking for advice on how to improve it, just a bit of fun and healthy (if not weird) competition to see who else lives in the dark ages!

88? The mind boggles. One advantage of fast speeds on here is you can add a crossword answer without finding 5 people have got in before you :-)

Ooo bernie, that is slow. I was thinking about installing a hamster on a wheel, see if that speeds things up.

No one likes a show off, hc. ;-)
luxury!
I get about 0.3 max download and something less for upload
We get 1.6 (and there are lots of us using it) - supposed to be switching to fibre something on Wednesday and should be able to get up to 40mb.

Jings nescio! How do you get anything done online? That's awful!
I live in a rural village only a few miles from Exeter, sp.
2.7 download, and 0.5 upload, so, similar to you.

No cable or fibre optics available, so that's the best I can get. My speed is perfectly Ok for normal use. The trouble is with "contention". (The number of users on at one time.) The exchange serves two villages and a huge rural area. After 6pm, or at weekends, everybody piles on, and that's when it all slows down.

I'm green with envy, Sher.

We're in the same boat, Builder. You can tell when everyone nearby is online. Slows right down.

I do laugh when I see the BT ads showing speeds of 10,000mbps (I may be exaggerating a tad).
Come and live down south. We're about to get VDSL

linda, I am beyond jealousy...
I only get 2.4 and the same upload as you, I can only begin to imagine what speeds like 60Mb are like. Actually we are quite happy about it because until a year or so ago we got 0.4 which meant youtube or any streaming stuff was unwatchable.

I was just thinking the same thing, Prudie. It must be amazing to have such fast broadband. Buffering must be a distant memory for the lucky ones.
Just to give an example of what it is like, it takes about 4 times the runtime duration of a TV programme to download it on BBC iplayer!

The worst of it is that we all pay the same prices (depending on you provider of course) for differing levels of service.
Being a bit of a computer illiterate, how do I find these speeds?
There are a few test around paddy, this one is quite reliable and popular

paddy, there are a few links on this post -

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Technology/Question1366347.html
I got download 10.97 and upload 1.96.
I get something similar, about 2.4 if I'm lucky. What annoys me is when I go to watch a movie on Amazon Prime, I select HD, the speed is then checked so that the film can be streamed at a suitable speed so as not to buffer, the movie is then played in SD, but I'm still charged the HD rental price, conning gits!
