... I also do a pretty fine Bread and Butter Pudding with Whisky Marmalade - I'll see if I can find my recipe (although I tend to make it up as I go along these days).
I love marmalade but I really can't stand bread and butter pudding, I have on occasion warmed a few dollops in the saucepan then mixed in some orange liqueur and poured it over a sponge cake, that was very nice ;)
Defo, dave, re: Crimbo dinner... have had it with a black treacle glaze, but might be tempted to marmalade & marmite, (just for a change & in the interests of ?taste?)
It was a (probable) myth regarding Mary, Queen of Scots wasn't it. I think the suggestion was she ate it to settle the stomach. Were it needed on the chest I'm sure she would have had a chest servant to do it for her. And if no chest was available I'm sure a lockable cupboard would suffice.
