If he were as funny and 'on the nail' as Chris Rock was, yes.

But specifically, which part of the monologue are you referring to?

I watched it live, and thought he did an outstanding job. There were two incredibly bad 'jokes' but they happened outside the 10 minute opening (the frankly weird 'black history month' joke that no-one seemed to get, and the shocking Asian kids joke, that was completely unacceptable).

The thing is that the Oscar organisers / those in charge knew about the reputation of Chris Rock and the type of jokes that he does .
So why choose him if they did not want any hint of controversy - why not choose someone less likely to rock the boat ?

Dare i say - they deliberately chose Chris Rock , precisely in order to make the audience cover their faces / stick their fingers in their ears , thus making the ceremony less duller than normal

Very easy to avoid the subject if you so wish. I think that race issues are important, and this is reflected in the interest such matters as the lack of diversity at the Oscars generates.

It would be fantastic if race were a non-issue, but I don't think we're any where near that point, so in my opinion, debate is worthwhile.

I myself can't stand reading news about football...so what I do is...not read stories about football.
