Diamond Jubilee Concert:What's it all about Alfie?

What on earth was that all about Alfie Boe? The rendition of O Sole Mio was ok, a safe choice that most competent tenors can perform but the jazzed up version???? Slightly cringeworthy.......IMO of course.

jazzed up version? You mean Elvis's It's Now or Never?
LOL
I loved it, he sang to a wider audience and livened up the crowd,
I thought it was good. Great if it gets younger people to connect to opera
Why ever not?
Question Author
'Its Now or Never' IS the same music as O Sole Mio That's probably why he chose it.
Yes, we know that!
I know. He sang two versions of it, operatic and pop. An intelligent choice given the mixed nature of this particular concert.
Agree jno
Moving on - not to happy with Annie Lennox.

Singing a Neopolitan song and an English version of the same isn't actually opera. But its been the best of the night so far, that and Lang Lang, Hoping Rene Fleming will be on before 9 as won't be missing Game of Thrones finale.
