Probably not....just telling lies.

Oops sorry, nailit - wrong thread :-(
"...there would be no BBC programmes."

Slightly tongue in cheek, but would that necessarily be a bad thing?
It probably would obiter......imagine life with only the commercial channels.

No BBC radio either.
Question Author
Obiter, I remember hearing an ex bbc 'license collector' some years ago been interviewed on the radio and he said that those adverts were all propoganda and scare tactics. As are the hand held devices now. They dont exist.
Boxy, I like tv, just not the BBC. Why should I pay the BBC for viewing non bbc programmes? Not a problem anyway, I dont pay the bbc anything, they know I dont pay them and they threaten etc but nothing they can do.
It might be unlawful but from what I can gather it certainly aint ILLEGAL... otherwise im sure the police would have been all over my place years ago. They certainly been all over me for other things but not paying a license isnt one of them. People are sometimes so duped by what they hear.
seems I'm not only paying for my TV licence, I'm paying for Nailit's too. Lucky me.
Exactly jno. It's not the legality but the morality I question.
Question Author
Thank you jno, appreciate it ...
I think that covers it for me.
JNO and Zacs. I agree, but I feel that our thoughts will fall on stoney ground as far as the recidivist nailit is concerned.
Just picked up this thread...beginning to wonder why I am paying my tv licence!!
But Nailit..just be careful...my daughter was fined a £1000 a while back ...she makes sure she does now!!!
I know the price of the licence is ridiculous...one can buy a small tv for that but we have to pay it and that is that.Mine is paid monthly by direct debit and I am so used to it going out at just over £12 that I don`t notice it.

Oh..and I watch BBC a lot...would not like to be without it.
NAILIT, if you were taken to court and pled not guilty, what defence would you use?
Question Author
Corbyloon, I would not be taken to court, if it were a possability that I were taken to court then I would have been there by now. The REALITY is that I dont let the BBC Mafia into my home. And theres nowt they can do about it. If you get fined by the courts then its your own fault by allowing these people into your home and admiting guilt. If you want to pay an unneccessary tax then thats your choice, its not enforcable and its not my fault if you CHOOSE to pay it.
Shakes head in disbelief.
"No BBC radio either."
Not so, the radio licence was abolished over 40 years ago.
I am sorry Nailit, don`t want to fall out about this as it is your choice...but I think you are far too aggressive regarding the whole think...NONE of us like having to pay the licence as it is a pain and I think the UK is about the only country that does(don`t quote me on that). But I can`t help feeling you are being a bit stubborn about it.
the whole "thing".....
THECORBYLOON the whole point is it would not go to court. Anyone fined has 'admitted' it. If you don't admit it they have to have evidence you have watched TV and its been suggested they in fact have no technical apparatus that can prove you have been watching TV. They rely on Scare tactics .. As for not having a BBC if the licence stopped -that's ridiculous -they would just put adverts on ,and as a lot of people record the programs they want to watch its easy enough to fast forward through the ads . Times have moved on -I pay over £50 a month for Sky and can watch all programs on 'catch up' without Ads -why should I give £148 to the BBC?
kloofnek -I don't agree the OP is being aggressive . We are the only country IN THE WORLD who gives money to the government to watch TV. Its outdated and unnecessary . Everyone has strayed off the original point and perhaps the argument about the morality of paying your TV license could be started on a new thread?
So you would advise me NOT to pay my licence?????
