Does Anyone Know About JSA etc?

Am in need of some advice or help please for my daughter. She recently changed jobs and was in receipt of a reasonable income, so she and her partner decided to rent a flat together.

The contract for the lease was signed 2 weeks ago with the move-in date being yesterday. She was then paid off from her new job when the boss decided to give her position to the son of his friend.

She has had to make a claim for JSA whilst she looks for another job and had hoped she would get some help with rent and council tax but because her partner works a 20 hour week on the minimum wage, they have been told they will receive no help whatosever.

Her partner earns about £480 per month and their rent and council tax is £440 per month. That's not counting gas/electricity, food, travel etc. I am worried sick about them.

Can anyone please give any advice? They are both white British citizens aged 22 and have no children.

I work 10 hours a week and my partner claims dsa at £80 every 2 weeks ,we also get housing benifits at £320 a month , I'm afraid to say thou because he works 20hours there is no way they could claim togeather because he earns more than what the government says couples need to live on

The goverment is an ass............................

Laughing hysterically whilst a percarious rope is dancing before my eyes. This is a total giraffe.
thought it may be diffrent for under 25s Sorry
By the way no life insurance policy pays out for suicide so don't even think about it.
This is why work is taking place by In Duncan Smith and his team on Universal Benefits. Too often those who choose not to work or work only a few hours are better off than those who don't

As to your statement "there is no contract factor" that cannot be right - if it was a paid job (and you say it gave a reasonable income) then there was a contract even if it wasn't written down. Tell her toget to CAB and ask about getting her notice pay- unless there is more to this than you are telling us.
Just filled in that benefit calculator using as much info as I can and putting thier ages as both 20. Obviously I have had to guess some of it , but it says they should get £127 per week housing and council tax benefit . Try it your self as you know more of the exact amounts.
F30 she has said her daughter was paid up to the end of her employment, she also says daughter recently changed jobs so she can be dismissed with out notice or reason.
Has she asked why she isn't entitled to Contribution based Job Seekers Allowance ( around £72 a week). If she has paid enough NI she should get it , regardless of her partner's income.
I agreed earlier that after 3 weeks she can be dismissed without reason but I doubt you can be dismissed without paid NOTICE in this way
Maybe I'll move on- this feels like one of those "yeah but no but" threads and we keep going over the same ground. I feel the next step has to be to see CAB and DWP as has been said
JSA for the under 25s is the one thing that is diffrent it is only £58 a week, there is a proposal to cut housing benefit for under 25s but it is not law yet.
If she does not qualify for contribution based JSA she will not get income based JSA as she has a working partner. I think this is where the questioner is getting confused and assuming they will not get any benefit . They should still get housing/council tax benefit even if the daughter does not qualify for income based JSA. This is one case where they are better off claiming as two seperate people not as a couple.
You do not have to be in receipt of a dwp benefit to receive housing benefit it can be claimed on the grounds of low income, if your daughter has been paying national insurance from her wages for the last 2 complete tax years she would qualify for contribution based JSA, because they are both under 25 with no children working tax credit is not applicable. She needs to check with the Jobcentre if she qualified for contribution based JSA and she needs to go to the town hall/housing benefit office and make a claim for Housing Benefit and Council Tax benefit. She also may find contacting ACAS useful i think the number is 08457474747, (but better check the number on line) to discuss how her job ended to see if there is anything she can do about it.

BTW refugees do not get much financial help actuallyu, and they have to move where they are told to and cannot work or have an education.

let's not envy people who have fled from rape, murder and burning homes?

your daughter should contribution based JSA for 6 months, and both should claim tax credits straight away.

also, IMHO, she should volunteer and keep busy, adding to her CV all the time.
