i have been informed that job seekers allowence is now means tested is this true if you have over a certain amount of savings you can not claim if so does anyone know what this amount is

Factor 30 is correct, I learnt this myself last week after being made reduntant. The advice I received was to claim contributions based benefit until my redundancy money runs out then swap it to the Income based benefit when I have no income and no savings. It is then possible to get them to pay interest only on your mortage assuming your building society...

If you have savings over £16,000, you can’t usually get incomebased Jobseeker’s Allowance. Below this limit, for each £250 of
your savings over £6,000, your benefit is reduced by £1 a week.
There are two forms of JSA.
Contribution Based JSA is not means tested.
Income based JSA has been means tested for as long as I can remember. As queen 1954 says, the level of savings is a factor. In addition other household income is taken into account
