Over 50 And Still Fighting Fit

16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

The older people become, the younger they feel and the more likely they are to see “old age” as a time occurring later in life, according to a national survey on aging. It seems, that with the average age of the population ever increasing, we are seeing more and more older people still living as if they were young.

One in ten people over 50 are taking advantage of their health and wealth in middle age by pursuing "extreme" or highly energetic sports, says a travel insurance survey. Ten per cent of those approaching the retirement years take part in sports such as skiing or mountain climbing, with 60 per cent expressing interest in new activities.

Some older adventurers can find it a greater challenge to find decent home insurance policies than to scale peaks, however. With people ever more active even later in life, some travel insurance firms have responded with restrictions on the age of the people they cover. Others have bumped up the price of their premiums for more risky activities.

Travel insurance advisors have warned active types of all ages to not risk serious injury without comprehensive travel insurance.

When you do strenuous activities at an older age if you are injured it takes your body longer to heal and you could be out of action for a lot longer than you think. It is always wise to talk to your doctor or health practitioner before taking up a new sport or starting out on a new extreme activity to make sure you are physically up to it.

To find good comprehensive insurance a search in the internet will quickly give you plenty of options. Make sure that the activity you are planning to do is covered by your policy and check on an excess that may apply.
