I have a fiesta 1.25 16v zetec mk5 2000 with 20,000 miles. But im using just to much fuel and driving like my 95 year old great granfather to save money. I know a lot about cars theres a slight blow in exhaust but then i think it was stored for six years. Im getting 38miles for a tenner i should be getting triple that. Its like haveing a 2.5 v6 and doing 150mph everywhere just drops the fuel gauge. I know about tyres , driving style and other fuel saving anwsers ,. Thanks

Standing for 6 years!! has the car had a full service? that's one cause of your problem.

There are dozens of possible reasons why your fuel consumption might be unusually high. One of them is a blocked air filter. The only reason I know that is from experience! I had a Fiesta which had a small oil leak. It was hardly noticeable. (There was no oil dripping onto the road and I only needed to top the oil up very occasionally and by small amounts). But the oil was spraying onto the air filter, resulting in it becoming clogged up and my fuel consumption doubling. Your problem might be completely different but it could be worth your while to take a look at the air filter.

Thanks , I know about air filter , its fine because i changed it last week. I think its my gauge but not hundred per cent certain. I put a tenner in this evening and it went up to half where it should go to quarter then after ten miles the light came on telling me im nearly out, just doesn t make sense. i know im gonna have to take it to a garage but thing is have no cash till monday because amount im spending on fuel. Im sure its a eletrical or someting similar. Thanks

Thanks , i did not know that,
Hi again, as you said 6 years, over that time what fuel that was left in the tank will have caused moisture through the fuel lines/ filter, your car if you intend to keep wants a real check over from the tyres which can crack on the walls by leaving it standing, the air filter believe it or not can get spiders and a lot of dust inside, the leads needs to be checked, it does not do to leave a car that long with the occasional run, last point, I would get the car re-tuned to finish the full & complete service.
