my son got his renewal quote in from his current insurer and the premium has doubled, the paperwork says he has made a claim in aug 2010, on contact with the company they confirm a claim has been made however through discussion they send an email to the underwriter to assess this as his 2 years NCD has been removed. in aug 2010 a foreign driver hit him on a roundabout and the police advised that he contact the insurance company as details had been swapped but he made it clear he was not making a claim but was solely advising them the police told him to aadvise the company there had been an incident however nothing was ever claimed by my son or the 3rd party, still waiting on a decision from the underwriters, any tips??? really fed up,....

Some insurance companies cancel the NCD just for you being involved in an incident, even if you didn't actually pursue a claim or have a claim filed against you. You need to check the small print of the policy.
My OH was involved in an accident but neither side claimed, so he was able to have his NCD restored. You need to check the small print - there may be something about young drivers in the T&Cs too.
