I'm learning how to knit as I've given up smoking. I'm on week 4 and still have a little bit of a craving and a friends suggested knitting. Can anyone suggest a store that sells knitting patterns or are they a thing of the past?

I get mine from my local craft shop.......look in your Yellow pages.
If you google free knitting patterns there are many sites you can download them from.

Look on eBay, there are loads there!
Look in yellow pages for your nearest wool shop, they will be able to help you choose a pattern and the wool and will be able to help if you get stuck. Markets often have a wool stall aswell (all wool shops/stalls sell patterns).
Good selection of knitting patterns and wool .Lots of up to date patterns .

And they have a forum where beginners are welcome .

Some John Lewis stores also have workshops run by Rowan .But their wool etc is on the expensive side .
Wilkinsons sell cheap wool in a variety of colours and markets often have a wool stall..
If you Google watch out for American patterns .They use different needle sizes to us different yarn weights and different instructions . They also knit a lot on circular needles knitting which can be confusing for a beginner .Stick to UK sites .
