Im new to this site and also doing hard crosswords.

I am trying to do the Genius from the Guardian with a little success. Ive done the top left hand corner except for 4d. The clue is "Gigantic Bird left stuffed in range". This gives a 9 letter answer with the pairing being a 4 letter answer that I think is -I-N. I guess it is LION, but I can';t think of anything except LION and UNICORN. Obviosuly UNICORN cant be right, can anyone help me?

I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you trying to find the 9 letters word and is that something that pairs with Lion? I'm not sure what leads to you to unicorn (only 7 letters) as a possible answer. Is there a clue for it? I can't see the wordplay for LION either
