Double glazed window bolts

Just after my Yorkshire Windows guaruatee ran out, the locking bars attached to the handles decided to play up. On one which has a vertical bar, it won't move when the handles turned so I can't open the window. On another the bar is horizontal and one side goes into the locking attachment but the other doesn't. I had people out from the compnay to rectify it on a couple of occassions but it soon went wrong.

Sounds like your shootbolt has broken away from the gearbox.
The gearbox is operated by the window lever and sends the bolts out into the frame.
To rectify ... a new gearbox or bolts will be required.
Upvc window locking mechanisms do need to be serviced/lubricated, otherwise they will fail eventually, and it is normally down to corrosion.

alava I have that problem on an Aspen window ( they have gone bust ). I agree with you that the shootbolt has broken away from the gearbox but in view of the fact that that is inside the actual vertical frame ( mullion ) and the casement window is closed , how can you get at the mechanism.
If I could open the casement window I could possibly fit a new assembly or fit a replacement casement window but at the moment it remains permanently closed. I spoke to one installer and he didn't have a solution .

I have this same problem, how do you get at a vertical bolt if you can't get the window open.
