It has got a lot worse where I live in Devon since our council started charging for many things that were free a while back. Like rubble, soil, tyres and things like felt from shed roofs amounst other things. People even dump things outside the recycling centre when it is shut just to save paying. Then the council have to pay to clear it up so are they really saving...
Lazy and selfish folk....and dishonest folk.........odd rules at the tip.....or recycling centre I'm told we have to call it......and the really grumpy man who used to run our local...tip.......☺
the cost of dumping rubbish, some don't care about where it goes. You may hire white van man to dispose of your unwanted goods, but you may have no idea where it's going, not to landfill or the dump, but to back country lanes and often beauty spots, which is criminal.
The area where I live sees a lot of fly tipping and it drives me mad, especially as the Council, due to cutbacks, don't clear up so often ! Flytippers are lazy and utterly selfish.
It's got worse around here since the council have put strict rules on the use of the local dump. It'll only get worse. The council couldn't give a wotsit as they don't have to pay for the clear up when it's on private land.
When I ran Bazaars and sales for a charity some folk would "donate" rubbish.....which I had to take to the tip after the event....
When the grumpy man took over and made new rules he refused to let me in....said he'd bet I was a business....pretending to have charity waste and I should pay for a permit.....or "clear off dear"......
After our next do I bagged up about a dozen or so black sacks intending to drip feed them into my binday collections.....left the sacks outside the church while I fetched my car and........somebody stole them!!
I was so relieved til I realised they'd no doubt be fly tipped when the thieves opened their haul.....x
Wolf.....I once sold the coat of Lady de Freitas who had only come to open our event.......I wrestled a suitcase from a disabled man (in public) ....he had filled it with stolen goodies on the pretence of helping on the bric a brac stall..... a close relative of a well known MP phoned me and offered to help on a stall......she brought a flask of....???.....and got sloshed......and the local Cat's Protection Folk shouted at me because one of the books for sale on the second hand book stall was....101 uses for a dead cat......the lady threw 10p at me and made a huge and emotional display of ripping up the book......so.....
EU regs on landfill restrictions caused councils to restrict and charge more for a necessary service. Draconian implementation and arbitrary applications have caused a predictable situation. It will get worse until councils relent, and do the job we pay them to do.
So I blame the EU, and the short sighted councils.
They must shoulder some blame, David.....but I manage not to fly tip under the same rules.....and I'll bet you do.....a pain I know.....but our countryside is a mess caused by those who don't make an effort...x

Waste disposal has become another ludicrous cash-cow for government to milk - right up there with excessive parking charges as a blight on the lives of ordinary people and businesses. Not just the bonkers 'landfill tax' from HMG, but the deliberate hiking up of disposal charges by Local Authorities out to turn a dishonest buck.
The (blindingly obvious) corollary of excessive costs to dispose of rubbish correctly is that ... people/businesses will evade the cost by dumping illegally. You'd have to be astonishingly dim not to see that - we do seem to have had a lot of quite thick politicians.
Litter is one thing - it's just laziness and lack of any civic responsibility - but the explosion in fly-tipping is largely caused by our lords and masters taking careful aim and shooting us all in the foot.
A lot of the foreign workers now in the UK, like the precious Polish and Irish builders etc. come from s. .holes where rubbish disposal is unheard of, and would think it lunacy to pay for the privilege.....so they get away with fly tipping and our home grown lot follow suit in a race to the bottom - as in many other things......
Well I can't speak for Poland, Rob....but I defy you to find, in Ireland, litter or fly tipping on the scale you have here ...and I don't come from a s.hole as you call it....
We're taught how to dispose of our rubbish and we do...our towns and cities are clean and litter free......there may be areas of cities that can't boast the same......but not where I visit or where family live.
Litter and fly tipping are different.....but I despair when I see the litter that covers this country......perhaps take a leaf out of Ireland's book......clean up your cities and towns.....and that will go some way to concentrating the minds of those who do fly tip......and the ones prosecuted in my area in recent months were English......
Tell me.....what evidence do you have that we live in s.holes where we don't dispose of our rubbish?
