We get black slugs and brownie coloured slugs in the garden.

I seem to remember that one is a good slug and one is a bad slug (Gastrapods of the Wild West...).

There was a rhyme to remember which was which, but I can't think if it was -

a) if it's brown put it down

or

b) if it's black put it back

Any ideas? (Or am I just havering?)

I don't believe there is such a thing as a good slug, they all eat your flowers and vegetables :-(
Question Author
I thought one of them didn't really do any harm and could just be left?

I'll just lob them all out of the garden. The peacocks eat them.
Hmmm, the only rhyme I remember like that is the one about flushing the loo...

If it's brown, flush it down
If it's yellow, let it mellow

.....
Question Author
lol, boxy!

Surely the outcome of your rhyme is the same?
Question Author
No shoota. a) would mean that the black slugs are evil and should be banished, but the brown ones could stay, and b) would be the reverse.
If its brown kill it (put it down)
If its black return it (put it back)
Or am I being blonde?
if it's red stomp it dead

if it's white put it to flight

.... wow, it's hard to think of a rhyme for orange.
Question Author
I always took the put it down as in put it back down on the ground where you found it. Mostly because I take the put it back (for the black slugs) as put it back where you found it too.

You're not being blonde at all, I'm just very vague!
Question Author
Brilliant, shoota!!

The black ones can stay, I'll dispose of any others!
Put them DOWNNNNNN......!
Question Author
I can tell when the slug problem is reaching dizzy heights when the peacocks start lurking outside the fence waiting for me to chuck one of the little bleeders over!
As somebody said on this site about snails I believe, 2sp , one is not throwing them over the fence as such.....one is teaching them to fly, Sounds much better !
Question Author
OK, flump, I will endeavor to instruct slugs (not the black ones) on the wonder of flight...

How and where they land is entirely out of my control.
all of them are horrible when you stand on them. We get the great big ones with the orange skirts :-(
Question Author
I've not come across orange slugs in skirts before, boxtops.

Must go google for a pic.

I get the brown ones with the orange or cream skirts. How do they find their way inside the lid of my wheely bin?
The worse thing is when you stand on one in your bare feet and it sort of hangs there from your foot - ughhhh !
I'm for killing all of them, even the name sounds horrible. Snails too. After all they are slugs with shells.
