I think this prog is fab, David Attenbrough is just the King of nature, I love his shows. I have to say I think the cycle of life the penguins go through - in particular the King pengs - is fascinating, I can't imagine a more tough life, yet they do it so dignified. But I have decided if I ever come back, I want to be the woolly bear caterpillar; eat as much as you can all summer & sleep all winter - yes, that would definitely do for me!

agree Meg - such a great programme - although the clip of the single penguin running backwards and forwards on a bit of ice when the killer whales were about didn't do my blood pressure any good - then we were told the whales were after seals and not penguins! phew
He's fabulous isn't he? David Attenborough I mean. Adore his gentle soothing voice, what an institution he is.
I wouldn't mind being a polar bear, very handsome, but a bit of a problem if father keeps eating all the cubs when he's hungry.
Apparently they stink, again I mean polar bears, not David Attenboough!
Silly me - I won't watch it. I don't want to see seals being eaten, etc. :o(
I don't think I'd be getting close enough to notice.
I'll let you know if there's a veggie episode, Lottie

Ah I know I hate seeing them get eaten - but we're all just part of a massive food chain I suppose, we're just higher up the ladder - unless we take a dip in shark infested waters of course!

But the penguins on this week's show were so funny - the one that was building his nest with rocks looked literally puzzled until he realised there was a little thief in the midst, who kept nicking the stones when his back was turned, it was classic stuff.

As for DA's soothing voice, yes he could tell you the worst news in the world, yet somehow it wouldn't seem so bad!
Not much vegetation around those parts!!
Very much enjoying the series myself, the killer whale footage is incredible imo, you wouldn't catch me in the water with that lot swimming around.
i cry at those bits lofty and then tell myself off!

I'd love to watch these programmes, but I can't bear to see them eating each other, although I know this is how it has to be. I think David Attenborough is the best at these type of programmes, long may he continue. I do watch sometimes, but usually behind my hands !
it was excellent, but did you realise the woolly bear caterpillar didn't really have a life, 14 years, and much of that time frozen solid, seems a harsh price to pay. But the footage they get is stunning, and agree about david attenborough, there is no one like him
and the scenes of the killer whales poking their snouts out of the water, like synchronised swimmers was wonderful, it did add that they do not eat the penguins, as they only eat fish i think? more to come.
I did see the killer whales - fabulous stuff. Makes a mockery of them being held in captivity doesn't it? How wrong is that !
Poor woolly bear caterpillar, didn't see that bit.
Will definitely try and watch some more next time it's on !
The photography on this programme is amazing, well worthy of an award.
I have to watch it with the remote in my hand so I can mute the sound and close my eyes when the predators appear.
The baby animals are gorgeous and I loved watching the polar cubs playing in the snow and their mother getting fed up with them.
Fabulous stuff.
notasyoungasiwas if you miss any watch it on iplayer

It's not that I miss it DrFilth, I'm a wimp, I don't like watching the predators (see my earlier post), but I do try to watch as much as I can. It's class TV.
Was anyone else shouting at the TV "Go back to the hole in the ice - NOW!" when the polar bear raised his snout and sniffed the wind, and the little baby seal was lying in the snow? My dogs woke up, and thought that I'd gone mad! and those killer whales were fantastic - a wonderful programme, beautifully presented by David Attenborough - any programme he makes is just fantastic, and he seems so nice as well.
