Millions Could Cut Costs On Travel Insurance

More than six million holiday makers in the UK could have saved money by opting for annual travel insurance cover, claim new industry figures.

When we book our main annual holiday most of us know that we need to get some travel insurance as well. However, it seems that many people do not realise that getting travel insurance for shorter trips such as weekends away or the so called booze cruise across to France to stock up on cheap alcohol is also a good idea. After all accidents can happen anywhere and wouldn’t it be nice to know you are covered?

More than that, though, it seems many of us have not thought about the possibility of an annual travel insurance policy. Anyone taking three or more trips abroad in any one year could save themselves time and hassle by booking their insurance for the year in one go.

Even on simple trips across the channel, annual cover can work out almost a third cheaper than insuring the trips separately.

However travel insurance representatives emphasise that holidaymakers should look for the best policy for them and not simply the cheapest.

"The beginning of the year is one of the busiest times for holiday booking," said a travel insurance manager.

"However, as people get excited about choosing where to go, they can often overlook the importance of choosing the right travel insurance policy or even forget to take out cover at all, especially when taking shorter weekend breaks."

"Before buying insurance, you should consider whether you are going to make multiple trips abroad as you could make a substantial saving by purchasing an annual policy instead of single cover for each trip," she added.

One of the best ways to find good deals in travel insurance is to do a search on the internet. Many websites now compare policies from a wide range of providers and you can get comprehensive cover and a tailored policy for your individual circumstances.
