Metrosexual Types Underinsured

16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

It used to be that only women carried around large quantities of ‘stuff’ in their handbags, nowadays however, increasing numbers of men are taking to the country’s streets with more gadgets than an electrical retailer.

And what a lot of choice of gadgets there are out there. Starting with your simple mobile phone to the new eBook, many men are like magpies collecting their shiny and above all expensive bits of kit. Whether it is for work, to be more accessible or just to show their mates down the pub, gadgets are more popular than ever.

However, it seems that we are not aware that we should be insuring ourselves whilst lugging around such equipment.
Metrosexual males are carrying up to £1,000 of possessions in their man bags, but are all too often forgetting to ensure that they are covered by their home insurance.

A specialist finance company, who carried out the research, warned that bags could be less secure than carrying things in the more traditional briefcase or pockets.

The rise of dinky, highly priced gadgets such as i-Pods, upmarket mobiles and digital cameras has unfortunately coincided with a vogue for canvas and leather shoulder bags.

While these may be fashionable, they are distinctly lacking when it comes to security, making a home insurance policy that will cover it all the more essential.

"If you're fed up of your pockets being stuffed full of all the latest gadgetry and are one of a growing tribe of men carrying a 'man-bag' instead, or even if you prefer to stick to the more traditional briefcase or rucksack, you need to look at the small print of your insurance policy to check whether your goods are covered when you take them out of the home," said a representative of the finance company.

Perhaps using your WAP enabled mobile could be a good way to check out home insurance policies.
