Hi, I have just passed on my sole trader accounts to an accountant, after many questions they are requesting all of my private bank/building society account numbers. I have supplied all the tax details and institution names but I wouldn't give savings account numbers to anyone, am I right? Why do they need them?
Thank you.J

Not intending to be sarcastic, jo - but I would, I wouldn't give any personal information unless I knew what they wanted it for and how they were intending to use it.

Welcome to the world of self employed where ALL your finances needs to be transparent for HMRC to dip into.

Your accountant does need these figures to complete your tax returns & to avoid financial penalties if not revealed in your tax returns.
