Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

This month we would love your low calorie breakfast ideas, thanks to OG. After watching a couple of semi-scary TV programmes this week about how bad our diet is in general some fresh ideas would be welcomed :-).

One programme even suggested that going back to a traditional FUll English is a good idea, less sugar and processed carbs etc!! Not sure if I have time for that every morning.

This sounds yum though:

or

Let us know how you start your day a low-calorie way.

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Here is last months thread

Good morning all, Now I can say it, I've lost just over a stone since January and have one more to go. I imagine it will be the hardest. Today I am going to buy a pair of trainers with the hope that they will help this aching heel problem I have. I have seen that it was easier to loose weight when I went for a brisk walk...(well brisk for me) every day.

Good idea Maydup. I had diabetic choc. Muesli (40 grams)with a sweetener and mini milk, two small slices of toast bread with diabetic jam, one small bowl of sugar free vanilla yogurt (about (75 grams) and 2 big strawberries....water and tea with no milk or sugar.
It's quite varied but also quite small portions. Tomorrow instead of muesli and toast I have a whole meal bun...no butter or marg, with a slice of lo fat (10%) cheese with a slice or two of red bell pepper on top, (on each half) a boiled egg..neither soft nor hard. We call it a laughing egg when it is almost soft in the middle of the yolk but the white is cooked through.
They are still loose from losses from around a year ago (no I don't replace until they are embarrassing to continue to wash & re-wear :-) ). But it is a mad period of late, re weight gain.
Just like my OH OG. I'm forever moving buttons in, just wish they were mine.
Wow, imaginative breakfasts xstitcher, some great ideas there.

Today I had 2 rice cakes with a scraping of olive spread, marmite and half a slice of low fat leederammer cheese on each. Plus a very ripe tomato.

Tomorrow 2 Oatabix with a handful of fresh blueberries and some almond milk.
Yours sound very yummy Maydup, especially the olive spread. You could top your rice cake with cheese with a slive of bell pepper or tomato.
I can't relish the berry variety as I don't know how many people have handled them before reaching their destination. Threw out a whole punnet of strawberries when I started to think of that. Urgh. YOLO - you only live once LOL. JJCon
You can always wash them. If you worried about what might have happened to your food you'd never eat :-)
Since I can't think of any foods not touched by humans I'd say that you've got a problem there jennyjoan.
Well I am happy with the covered variety and the ones you can peel

Bananas
Apples - peel
Pears - peel

and a few others - you can't peel the berries and washing them wouldn't convince me either - Sorry
Maydup, where do you get your almond milk from?
Yes xstitcher and Og well said . Everything we eat has been handled . Jenny no problem to wash everything well no matter where it comes from .
Maydup,some good ideas there .
Jenny all fruits that are berries are less sugar . This is what our onwards and downwards is all about .you have named the highest sugar content . I take it you are not in the process of losing weight .
Jenny I see from another post you have a weight problem . If you read back on onwards xstitcher and I have been running this for three years and we have always stressed to write out your weeks menu in advance and write down everything you eat . If you have everything in hand you won't be inclined to eat all the wrong things . We weigh on a Wednesday mostly with tips from others to help,
Jenny also on your other post you said you lose weight most when you don't eat . This is wrong as you will put it back on twice as fast .
I may join your wee club as I truly need to get it off for the wedding.
Your very welcome jennyjoan. When you are trying to loose weight fruit must be treated as a treat for just now and then. The reason we have been on about berries is because all berry fruits have the lowest amount of sugar.
Without divulging any secrets I can tell you that Wendilla and I have been eating berries longer than anyone else in our little club and apart from our weight problems we are still alive and kicking.
You are very welcome to join us . Start by writing out your meals for the week .as I said weight day is Wednesdays . We just want to know your loss or gain .and of course any tips . Things don't work the same for everyone . I swear by having a small glass of unsweetened grapefruit juice every morning as this helps to break up fat BUT some people on certain medication are not allowed or . It will, state on the medicine .
Just a couple of guidelines...we eat plenty of chicken and fish and try to keep red meat to a minimum.
The portions are very important. Your vegs can be raw or cooked and as many as you can eat.
HTry cutting out as many things as possible that have white flour in them and use whole meal flour as a substitute as often as possible. Loosing a lot of weight at one go isn't good...slowly and steadily is the most healthy way and will make it easier to keep it off.
Stay with us and learn all our little tried and tested tricks...no fads or short cuts here.
Re almond milk

I like this one and buy it in any supermarket or the wholefood shop

CHICKEN PADDIES

450 grams chicken mince.........1 pound
1 egg or 1 egg white
1 finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons porridge oats
4 ounces milk..........100 ml
Salt, pepper
finely chopped bell pepper ...no measurement for this....about one quarter

Mix onion and chicken. Add flour, oats and egg. Add rest and mix thoroughly.
Dry fry or fry in 1 tablespoon olive oil. Serve with your favourite salad dressed with lemon juice and a drop of oil.
That sounds a good breakfast. I may not even need lunch after that.
