I have the answer -  flowing.

Apparently flowing in hospital terms refers to flowing from one medicine on to the next. Also flowing from one precedure onto the next. (the connection to rivers is obvious.)

Rivers are flowers in crossword speak which sounds different from flowers which are given in hospital
