I gave up yesterday evening. I typed a few words, it froze. Had to refresh, it all disappeared. Start again...'this site is having a problem loading' after 6 or 7 tries. Computer on all evening, I gave up after hitting it firmly ((1-yr-old laptop). So hard and frustrating when you work out what you want to say and simply can't say it.

I can only manage to type a few wordsw ew

It's probably not the site but the device that you are using. I have no problems on either of my laptops but using my Kindle to access AB is a total nightmare.
I have got used to the changes but would defy anyone to disagree that traffic in the topics not listed above has dropped off significantly plus a lot of regulars seem to have disappeared or are posting far less.
It shouldn't be that bad! What do you use to get on Lankeela?
I wouldn't go as far as saying this site is rubbish, but I would agree it seems to be much different from the site that I once knew.

Could it be due to the change of season or the alterations made to the site causing many ABers to leave?

Has anyone else got any ideas why things have changed?
I struggle with chrome.
It would be a lot less hassle if the sub-categories were scrapped. I rarely bother to look in them nowadays.

Chrome or IE page keeps freezing
it plays up on Edge for me at times. Yesterday it kept freezing...although I could move cursor around, I couldn't access any other pages and it wouldn't even shut down, couldn't type anything either. Plus it wont show the subs in the catorgories section.
On my mobile I struggled with Chrome. However with a browser called Brave it works quickly.
I too wouldn't go as far as to say it's now rubbish. It was never great, but like most website overhauls it looks worse now than it did before. I'm not sure I can think of many website changes where I've ended up thinking it looks and works a lot better and this one is no exception. In terms of your problems with typing, I agree with wolf63 that it's more likely your device that's the problem. I only ever use this site on a PC and don't have any typing problems.
AOG, would it be anything to do with the pettiness on the site?
I have trouble with AB on my Hudl tablet. The problems are numerous - locking up, etc. It's OK on my computer. But the old AB was so much better where all the categories were shown and I get fed up with continuous scrolling. I get no problems on the tablet with other sites. The old AB was so user friendly and much more professional looking, in my opinion. I feel sure that new users would miss the fact that there are more categories.
I wasn't a fan of the changes but I'might used to them now. Everyone was a newbie once and as with any site, regulars will leave and new folk will join.

It may be that folk were swithering about leaving anyway and the changes were a good excuse to bite the bullet and depart.
That said, you've just reminded me that I do occasionally find it freezes in Chrome on my PC but it's usually okay. I also agree that the subcategories can go.
It was supposed to be better for mobile devices but although I am not up in arms about it, it really is quite a pain on a phone. The large font just means lots and lots of scrolling
I agree with AOG......it isn't the same site.
The new format has not made an improvement and one can make an argument that the change has been a retrograde step.
It is just CB, News and Crosswords........all the other specialist groups are underposted, either by less ABers or less posting by remaining ABers.
It is not "rubbish" but is well on the way.
What can be done about it? Less moderation and let arguments continue even if it upsets some ABers.
I've never had a problem on any device. I don't mind the changes except I'd much prefer the categories put back to the left.

I have have no issue with the update; everything works as well as it ever has.

But there has definitely been an upswing in my 'eye-rolling'; too many threads devolve into a few of the more single-minded ABers bludgeoning and brow-beating other contributors and diverting threads towards their own particular agenda. It's exhausting and not much fun to read....
