First time on this thread. I have decided to give my liver a 6 week rest as I have read that in that time it regenerates itself. Just completed the first week. Prior to this I was consuming approximately a bottle of 9% wine a day. Result so far. 3lbs weight loss. 1 inch off my waist. £28 saved!

In general terms, the average glass of wine = same calories as a slice of cake. 5 glasses per bottle, a bottle a day = pretty much the hole cake = 7 cakes a week = 52 cakes a year. Fatty ;-p

7 cakes a week is 364 cakes a year Snags.

Your Liver, your wallet and your waistline will all thank you, Grasscarp :) Good luck with your programme of abstinence.

I am going to stick with it lazygun. Even my skin is looking brighter. Going out to dinner tonight. To order water with a meal is probably a first for me!
Snags must have small glasses. My bottles of wine only provide 3 glasses.

When I gave up drinking I lost 5lb in two weeks and I was already slim.

(chubbier now though, sob)

Not sure what you are saying mcgrubby? That you dont think it is a good idea to give it up for a while? I am delighted with the weight loss - now 4 lbs after 10 days and 2 inches off my waist. I am not giving it up forever, just short term to lose some flab and give my poor overworked liver a rest.

Day 15 of not drinking - total weight loss now 4lbs. 3 inches total off my waist. Definitely continuing with this.
well, if you like abstinence, fine. You're clearly not an alcoholic who actually craves liquor. But if you do want a glass occasionally, why not just cut down on consumption on a more permanent basis?
I'm not convinced about alcohol being that fattening. Last year I started a calorie control diet, I worked out the calories according to my weight/height etc so that I would lose an average of 1-2 pounds per week. Whilst I kept to my food calorie intake to the recommended level, I carried on drinking my usual 6 pints a night and not counting them as part of my diet. Result? I still lost 1-2 pounds per week and reached my weight loss target of 2 stone.
Great to hear that grasscarp. I gave up alcohol in march and went from a size 18 to a size 12, i also gave up all the unhealthy crap (Crisps, chocolates, cakes and fast food) and stopped eating carbs after six and didn't exercise to aggressively and i love the new me! I've save sooo much money and feel healthier and more vibrant and will start exercising properly to get to a fit firm size 10 before next summer. I've had one or two relapses and have given myself alcohol rewards as in i can drink on new years, christmas and some birthdays but not every special occasion as if i did i'd be back to square one so if two functions are coming up i choose one i'll drink at and the other i'll stay sober and it's working fantastic.
Good luck with your goals and as you can see it works! xxx
6 pints a night and you still lost weight. That's amazing.
Also another tip i have is i bought a size 10 bikini when i was sized 16 and had it hanging next to my mirror and i was determined to fit into it by summer 2014 and i also got the most unflattering piggy picture of me (Which funnily enough was me sitting at a table surrounded by drink and stuffing my face with a kebab) had it blown up and it's on my fridge to remind me how i don't want to look like anymore.
'6 pints a night and you still lost weight. That's amazing.'

Amazing? not really, alcohol is not fattening unless you eat a doner kebab or a large cheese burger with it.
Henrietta, you have done amazingly well. I'm sure that grasscarp will be inspired by your weiightloss. Good luck to both of you.
off course alcohol is calorific.
of course.^
Thank you tilly2 :)
That'smethatis. Sometimes the body doesn't display the damage it's done externally but internally by severely damaged brain and memory, high cholesterol and weak heart and kidney and liver damage which one day suddenly arise and is then sadly too late for many :(
OK, I'll live on just beer for one week and you eat cake all week. Who will put on more weight?
