Why is it on here that a lot of the time people with a different point of view or opinion are ridiculed because they don't agree with the majority. I just read a post where someone said they did not agree with expectant mothers bearing their bump in public. Someone then said do they have frilly covers on their piano legs so ridiculing their opinion. We hate to see bodies displayed in public, men with shirts off in town and pregnant women baring all. It is our opinion and surely have the right to say what we feel just as much as they who disagree. I have noticed people driven off here because of ridicule not nice just because we don't all agree.

Well if we all sang off the same hymn sheet the world would be a boring in place imo, ferryman.
i don't care for it either, one is supposed to be man/woman enough to not care for the rude comments, brush it off, well some obviously don't. Difference of opinion is one thing, but actively being rude, obnoxious about the person is not right at all.
You have a right to your opinion, others have a right to challenge it. Some people challenge opinions using humour.

I would largely suggest growing a thicker skin if this bothers you as the comment itself is hardly abusive.
I agree with China, grow a thicker skin.

How do you expect debates to go? I agree...well I don't agree...end of debate.

China doll idid not say the comment was abusive, I said it ridiculed the opinion. There is also times on here when people are downright rude to people just because of their opinion and I don't think it is called for.
What one person thinks is rude another could view it as light hearted banter.
there it is grow a thicker skin, well some don't have thick skins, either on AB or in real life, would you say the same to a friend you may have offended in some way, grow up, get a thicker skin, doubt it.
You like crisps don't you?
Oh well why not just have a whole potato dipped in engine oil. Hur hur hur.

I think the ridicule is self inducing in that it is them that try it who look silly in the end. We'll all be guilty of it at some point.

don't think i understand that at all ^^

I agree emmie, why should those who have differing opinions to the thicker skin people be made to feel if they don't conform to the majority it is their fault. That is what is wrong today do it our way or go away.
Of course we all have opinions and often it does us no harm at all to have those opinions challenged. It would be a sensible reaction to see those instances as an opportunity to examine quite 'why' we have reached our opinions and conclusions and consider whether or not we have been rational in doing so, or simply adopted the 'because I don't like it' line; and not examined why we feel like that.

That is the definition of CB I am afraid.Same people, same opinion, same method of ridicule (sarcasm). It hasn't changed over 10 years and never will.

Name the topic and the ABer and i bet that i could reproduce the response.
Like 'end of'

Yes I have noticed it too squad and people have left because of the sarcasm and nastiness some seem to enjoy inflicting on here. It's not differing opinions it's down to rudeness because someone doesn't like an opinion and to me that's a sad part of this site.

'idid not say the comment was abusive, I said it ridiculed the opinion.'

If my opinion is that your opinion is ridiculous then I would ridicule it. I use humour in my debating style.

'would you say the same to a friend you may have offended in some way'

^^^ Depends on the level of offence caused, if it's just they didn't like a throw away comment then yep, of course I'd tell them not to be so silly.
well some people might get offended over a personal comment and some might not, and it's a fine line to tread whether on AB or elsewhere. We have seen cyber bullying in action, some poor souls have taken their own life, perhaps it was the straw that broke the camels back. Having a debate, questioning one's ideas is part of life, however if i said i don't like something say marmite, why should one go into the ins and outs of why, its a small example, i am sure i could think of others.
Sarcasm isn't bullying.
nor is it reasoned debate.
It can be, imo.

Maybe some people should stick to talking about the weather and cute kittens.
Some people don't have reasoned opinions.
