I had exactly that procedure in 2001.
It really depends on how they do the surgery.
Unfortunately I had to be cut up and down the way which is not a good thing.
I am sure that current procedures are better, but it took me a significant time to feel better....I was back at work half time in three months, but really wish in hindsight that I had had another month off.
And don't get me started on the HRT saga....they changed their minds about it about every 2 years.

Mine was not until 2007, one cut from hip to hip in the natural crease line, internal stitches only. Healed really quickly, scar now virtually invisible. Driving 6 weeks later, back at fitness class after 8 weeks. No HRT due to family history despite my low blood pressure, but very few problems.

ladyalex, I've just been reading some of the booklets they gave me,...apparently I'm to be up and walking by the day after the op, which is fair enough, I understand that, but by day 2 I have to be out of bed for 6-8 hours of day!!
Ubasses, sounds like yours was a very positive experience.

You'll be encouraged to be up and mobile obviously but only within safe limits Baths - just take it steady and try best you can to follow sound advice.

Most importantly if in doubt ask questions.

I agree with Mamya, best left now.
The only thing bothering me just now is that I have to take all my meds with me, in original boxes, but I'm due a new month's supply on Wed, and there's no way I'm gonna take 28 days worth of my meds,.....I know what happens on discharge,...been there with my Dad enough times ;)

Best wishes Bathsheba My daughter is just getting over a 'straight forward'hysterectomy She has a very low pain threshold so I can't always gauge how she is bless her. I don't think that it was a radical as yours or ubasses and ladyalex. Their experiences must be reassuring. Good luck on Thursday

I had the same almost thirty years ago, Baths....even in those dark ages I was up and about quite quickly and recovered really well.....

One thing I would change....(I asked it for but the surgeon forgot!)....would be to have had an up and down incision......
I'd had three previous operations using the same up and down scar and healed in no time....and my tummy went flat with no effort..wouldn't know I'd had three operations at all....
This one was a bikini line cut......it was a bit of bother later and healed with bumps and a lopsided wobble.....and I think is more prone to sagging a bit......
An up and downer with a decent pair of knicks for a while is much better, I think..... :-)

I used HRT then for over twenty years with no problems.....

Mine wasn't cancer though so I wish you well, Baths.....hope you don't need follow up therapy.....and don't let them get their hands on your pills!

Thanks granny, I think I have quite a high pain threshold, but am looking forward to trying morphine if it's offered!
Pixie, they'd better not even think of changing my meds without first speaking to my Psychiatrist!

If this was a male poster asking about a robotic prostatectomy, I'd probably say something daft like, "No I've not had one."

Baths, I don't have any experience of Gynaecology or Gynae cancers (I deal with breast, lung and UGI). However my thoughts will be with you xx

One weeks supply of drugs will be enough baths. Don't be reluctant to ask for pain relief. Very best wishes .
