Can IBS symptoms be made worse if one is taking SRI ( serotonin reuptake inhibitors) ? I have read that 90% of serotonin is at work in the gut. Thanks J...

Thanks for your reply............I cannot envisage any association between your SRI's and IBS.

There Re so many factors that make IBS worse that I do not think that you could pin the blame in your case as due to SRI's.

However they can, like many drugs, cause gastro-intestinal problems.

How long have you been on SRI's, how long have you had flare ups of IBS?

\thanks for the reply sq,
Ive been on SRI ( paroxetine) for around 10 years ( anxiety/panic attacks), which they stopped. I had my first 2 week bout of IBS some 5 years ago - was prescribed Colafac and it went. I have been fine since but got symptoms again a week ago.

I just wondered if stopping SRIs may help?
