I think you can "self cert" for 7 working days- basically say you are unwell and stay off work for 7 days- any longer you need a doctors certificate/ line x

not 7 working days just 7 days so if you go sick on a monday a self cert covers you til Sunday night then you either return to work or need a doctors sick note
