(which I shouldn't have to do), my daughter has recently returned to using AB, she got fed up of other users ignoring her posts but jumping on her lack of correct spelling and grammar, she puts up her first thread for months, and within two replies she gets criticised again. Like myself, she has a tongue in cheek attitude as regards her own contribution to this site, this has again made her think she shouldn't bother with AB. It is a pity, she does noone any harm and is a cheerful girl who brightens people's day. Can I suggest that there is a bit more tolerance on this site? Save the aggression for the wind -up merchants eh? (my daughter is peachy3 by the way)

I seem to have lost my answer. Boo you have never, to my mind, been rude or upset anyone. You are a poppet.

Octavius congratulations to you and Mrs O.

Hi dotty, youl always get the odd numpty pulling people to bits.....wether it be about spelling or the way they try and put the question -tell her to keep posting and not to be put off,
here, whatever happened to dot.hawkes?
Everyone falls foul of the coven at some point in time, especially if you are green or don't agree with all that they say. Some users have nothing better to do than pounce on an unsuspecting visitor who may dare to ask a sensible question, or answer with their own opinion. And may the heavens protect you if you forget their birthday.

Your daughter doesn't need to worry about them, they know who they are. Not sure who the wind up merchants are though.

Keep on posting, ask and answer away.
Couldn't agree more.....

When I first joined AB, it was like a baptism of fire, as many were wary of new subscribers, due to the undercurrent caused by a certain aber. No "greenie" escaped suspicion!

Only when I posted that I lived in the same town as Pippa, (and received her "hello"), did I feel that I had been accepted. To any newbies it is a minefield for them, especially now, and believe me, when you are referred to as such "G******s" it is said sometimes (unfortunately), with such venom!

When you post a question, or even answer on a thread, sometimes to show others (who might not 'get' your sense of humour) that it is said Tongue in cheek, then we all seem to have to add a lol or happy/sad face, or like me now a ☺!
There is nothing worse than when you join a thread of chatter/banter, that your thread is ignored, even if you ask a question (sometimes remote from original Q, which does quite often happen). Some will continue to 'chat' amongst themselves, and it can be upsetting.

I have typed most of my life, many letters etc., so it is difficult for me to not use punctuation where necessary.
I am also blessed with good spelling, my God! even the great Shakespeare himself (apparently) was not! I would never dream of putting someone down for this, and if anyone wishes to 'text' that is up to them.

Having said all that, I have enjoyed joining this site, and nothing pleases me more than someone thanking me for sending a recipe or info on a matter....cos I love typing, and it gives a warm glow to know you have helped someone...

xXx ☺
dotty, thanks to you, my spelling is usually correct now. I had never used the spellcheck on my google toolbar until you pointed it out when AB was changing. Thanks for that!

Tell your daughter to take absolutely no notice of the critical ABers. I am always of the opinion that there are far more nice ones who don't have to resort to that!
Yeah tell peachy3 not to worry. It's only txtpsk that annoys me as I can't see it as I'm an old biddy and it's all too new to me. Nice people are what we need on here, so come on down!!!
Who are you to talk Dotty? You pounced on me about my punctuation when I used to be another name. Sometimes we don't realise the mistakes until after the answer is posted. But you are perfect so everyone should be perfect like you. You need to learn tolerance and stop putting down others. We never know what life has in store for us.

Because of this remark you made I felt so embarrassed and insecure, I rarely visit AB and I refrain from posting anything. I leave AB for the perfect people like you.

what utterly nasty people you are, pathetic excuses for grown ups you should be ashamed,

Dot
They're just cowards, dot. Ignore em.

No genuine new member would ever come on to a site and start attacking its users like this. These are direct personal attacks, and are against Site Rules. And I think it's probably safe to say that they know this rule since they are not really newbies at all, just pathetic people too gutless to use their regular screennames.

I have reported the above posts as abusive, and with any luck the ed will remove them shortly.

Blimey this degenerated into nastiness didn't it?

Painter, missing and NYC- Dotty has a quirky sense of humour which not everyone gets, it's especially hard to get when you can't grasp the joky manner in which she says 'em (her jokes).
I've known dotty (via here) for a while now, and I honestly say i've not seen her be rude, malicious or offensive to anyone without cause. I'm not saying that you were rude or offensive to her, I'm just saying that maybe she was joking and it was taken the wrong way?

She's a good egg is our dotty, give her a chance eh?

I cannot do the same estie until my username is restored, hopefully that will be tomorrow when i get in from work, i can work out who they are pretty much anyway. Feeble brains some folk, Bob is right, it is jealousy, and that may sound arrogant but it ain't.
hmmm, nonetheless, dotty does occasionally draw attention to the syntax of others...
Question Author
possibly I do jno but only as a secondary criticism of maybe some more relevent issue. ; )
mebbe dotty but as you can see, some people didn't appreciate it, any more than your daughter does. Fortunately my own spelling is perfect, though sometimes my keyboard rearranges letters after I've previewed them, just to annoy me.
Question Author
oh jno u get that too? I tend to do lazy posts when I am tired, I use the spellcheck still but really sometimes it is too much of an effort. my son says I am lazy minded actually, which isn't the same as physically lazy.
