I am struck by the number of questions, many of them under Law, and others under Relationships that are the first and only question asked by the person. It makes me wonder how many are genuine and how many are created just to see the reaction of ABers. Most replies seem to assume they are genuine because of the generosity of most ABers in giving people the benefit of the doubt, and desire to help. But I can't help thinking ABers' kindness is sometimes being abused. Or am I just a cynical b******?

Cynical.

I asked my first Q in B&S and didn't come back for a long time.
Probably a bit of both, no harm done in trying to help.
Some people ask the same question across several sites (e.g. here as well as Yahoo answers, for example) to see what response they get on different forums.

I agree Flump, and I guess Ummmm might be right about my cynicism :o)

///ABers' kindness is sometimes being abused///

Surely not, I mean that wouldn't happen would it?
Its Q & A site first
I think, like me as a newbie, people assume this is just a question and answer site. I came on looking for an answer but, hey! I found a community. Another more negative thing I found was, patronizing answers or just questions about the question. In other words not a straight answer and maybe that puts people off. Me, I love it and love the banter so, excuse if I loiter with intent for a while longer.

I don't think so Info, given violent crime's falling, I'm always surprised by the number of people asking for advice about facing abh or gbh charges, often on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon
The first question may be something that is extremely personal and troubling to the poster.
Once that is dealt with the poster may no longer want references to it so register again with a new user name. It's a possibility.
You mean they might be asking if its ok to carry on supporting Arsenal?
My word thatsmethatis you've only been here two days . . . where did you learn about the Arsenal link so quickly?

Wink wink!
Well exactly - if I had posted a question accidentally exposing myself as a Wolves supporter I could never have raised my head again. Fortunately that didn't happen so I'm OK.
Oh drat ...
It's been nice knowing you, S-d...
Maybe they did not like the answer they got!
bodeker has it, certainly in law. "No chance!" tends to be a reply which deters the questioner from returning.

We can spot coursework questions, I'm sure, in law. They always read like the questions which teachers and examiners set, never like real life. A genuine question invariably has irrelevant detail which raises no legal trap which examiners would lay, or omits key facts altogether
a truly incredible number get drunk and then get into a fight

altho they all seem to begin - I dont normally drink.......
