'Ignorant' runner accused of causing seal stampede

A wildlife group has released footage of a runner causing a "severe stampede" of more than 100 seals in North Yorkshire.
The incident was recorded near Robin Hood's Bay on 6 January and shared by volunteer organisation The Yorkshire Seal Group.
A spokesman for the group said the man ignored the advice of seal stewards at the scene and moved towards the animals "with haste" causing them to stampede.
The spokesman added: "This level of disregard and lack of ocean literacy undoubtedly caused numerous injuries to the fleeing seals and may take the life of some of our pups who have suffered horrendous mortality rates following Storm Arwen already."

A lot of cruel and selfish idiots have been guilty of harassing seals lately. There was a report of a sick and dying seal having stones and rocks thrown at it by the public. Police had to come and stand between the seal and the morons who were throwing at it !!! Another one was a young seal being harassed by plebs who wanted their photo taken with it, despite the fact that the seal was obviously in distress and wanted to be left alone, and now this !!!

That is not what we see on the accompanying video.
He approaches them slowly and with caution. The seals made for the sea, but it didn’t look much like a stampede, or that any injuries occurred.

Here in Norfolk they have employed more wardens and many volunteers to stop such things happening.
