We have adopted 2 greyhounds about 2 months ago,but one of them seems to have a tendency to eat his own faeces, they have both been wormed and are on the diet instructed to us by the greyhound trust. Has anybody got an explanation for this many thanks ....??

Putting tinned pineapple or pineapple juice into their food can stop them doing this. I've never had the need to try it, but apparently it does work. I know you wanted more of an explanation why, but this could help stop it.
my dog used to eat her own all the time...the vet said that they actually get alot of minerals out of it! lol i wont be doing it anytime soon though!!!!!!
Sprinkle one with chillli or curry powder (the poo, not the dog) and let the dog wire in - it may take a few times, but your dog will soon be put off.
My one year old tzu-shih/poodle cross has recently started to do this when she poohs in the garden so I have to watch and collect immediately. I have researched the web and, as per previously answered, pineapple is recommended. So not pleasant but apparently normal and not damaging. One consolation is she does not eat other poohs left by inconsiderate owners who don't clean up after their dogs when out walking. My Lucy is a problem eater and I have to cut out all biscuits for her to eat her food (presently on Pedigree chicken in gravy, well for this week anyway). I have tried all dried food and she will eat this for a short time then stops. Difficult, as they say when you change the diet do it gradually. Anyway, apart from this she is fit, healthy and happy. Digusting habit but at the end of the day they clean their own bums (and more for ***, slurp, slurp yuck). Mine is gradually responding to "LEAVE" and we are making progress.
