"Any ideas please."
Yes, take him to the vets. Two weeks of endless scratching is far too long for him to be suffering.

Sorry forget to mention there are some trees locally that are infected with brown tale moths they are dying ogg now do you think that might have caused scratching?
Don't speculate, take him to the vets. If he gets open wounds from scratching, that'll be worse.

Hi this time of year fleas wake up and they carry worms, fleas can lie dormant for 18months so when u frontline your dog you should worm him at the same time. The best time to worm and de flea a dog are May and again in october when your central heating comes back on hope this helps

We flea every month - I wouldn't only do it six-monthly

Obviously will take him to vets but wanted to see if I could sort it myself first and wondered if anyone had any advice.
your vet will give you the same advice I gave you he may also need his anal glands emptying
Don't wish to sound rude Herbie, really I don't, but you've been trying for 2 weeks to remedy this yourself, and it's clearly not working. Time to let professional have a look at him- Good luck :-)
why did you not take him week ago?
spray infected area with salt water. Add a little garlic to spray to deter mites & fleas

He has had anal glands emptied and am takeing him to vets tomorrow was hoping seawater would sort it out when we're away but can't leave him like this but he's been asleep for last hour so maybe latest bath worked will post how we get on thanks for answers
Baths too often wash off dogs natural oils, that is protection from infestation & can cause rash.
Are you absolutely sure he hasn't got fleas because FrontLine is absolute rubbish? Try Advocate or Stronghold.
Don't spray him with anything, it sounds like he has an allergy (one of mine gets it when he runs in rape seed fields), Take him to the vets NOW, and he will give him a long acting antihistamine jab, which will last all summer. The worst thing you can do to the poor thing is keep spraying and washing.
What is he fed on, he could be intolerant to something in his food or it might be too high in protein.
I would get a skin scraping done with the vet, as it isnt just fleas that make a dog scratch.
I doubt that sea water is going to do much at all, if you think the the salt in the seawater is some magical cure you could have tried that at home without the pollution of the sea water.
You really should have taken him to the vet before now!!
