Afternoon!

A small update this evening at 9pm - the site should be down for an hour.

Also: where is the smart money for the races this weekend?

Noooooooooooooooooo, Ed you can't forget that one. It has driven me to the edge of insanity. Mind you, writing poems about gnomes has as well....

I've just checked and the remove post option doesn't do anything for non-mods.
Question Author
We've just fixed it, non-mods shouldn't see it now.

Thanks for fielding questions Chuck.
Thanks chuck, Ed etc.
When I first saw the screen with a Remove Post button I did wonder for a while whether I had been appointed as a Moderator!
Thanks for fixing things, Ed. I'm not sure why we need our password again if we are already signed in but it's better than having to enter a capcha code.
Factor30......Surely you do Not have to sign-in and insert a password on every occasion that you access AB. I have an icon on my desktop which takes me straight to my 'Profile page'. Furthermore, having had a peep at the new Report page, my password is already there, as a series of dots.

"but it's better than having to enter a capcha code."

Exactly what we thought!

Report something Ron.
:-) I tried the 'remove' one with the idiot spammer this morning. Didn't work though :-(
Ed....I have done as requested and hope the message arrives.

Incidentally, you have fixed the the 'remove post' because it no longer appears on the 'report' page which comes up for me; without any need for my pumping in my password.

Ron
ron, those of us who sensibly sign out every time we close AB do have to sign in again before we can access AB - I wouldn't leave any programme open when I close down, we always log out of everything, for security. If you leave programmes open so they just boing up when you click on the icon, you're asking for trouble.
I agree boxtops, although it is frustrating sometimes when I type an answer and then realise I'm not signed in.
In addition to logging out regularly I clear my cache a couple of times a week.
That's why the sensible people don't get the "back button" issue on this site, too, factor.
Sorry factor30 & boxtops...I don't really understand what you are saying.

I do not leave any programme open. I close down AB and am no longer on the internet; but a click of a 'short cut' icon on my desktops then 'strikes-up' my browser and connects to my profile page on AB.

What I have is tantamount to a bookmarked page and I feel sure you have such pages on your computers.

Where is the danger with what I am doing and have done so almost from the very first day of my joining AB.?

Ron.
-- answer removed --
Don't you click on "log out" (next to your profile) before you shut down AB, ron? If you don't, you're not logged out, even though your computer is shut down.

Yes, of course we all have bookmarks, but ours takes us to the AB log-in page - otherwise if anyone hacks your computer, they're straight in if you don't log out. We log out of every application (AB, bank account, email, etc.) before we shut down the computer. It's only sensible for internet security - I thought everyone did that!
I always sign out of anything official or where I've been shopping but I never log off from AB. Anyone who wants to trawl through my 15,000 offerings is welcome to do so...and they could do that without being signed in as me anyway. The worst that could happen is they post as me...and no one would probably notice the difference if it was rubbish.
:o)
G'afternoon boxtops...Sorry for the delay in responding to your latest posting in this thread. Viv and I do our weekly shop on a Saturday morning and, after unpacking, have a little slump with a few glasses of sherry.. Oops, I could now be in trouble with AB for having digressed from subject matter......So back to it quickly.

I am able to appreciate what you are saying and have put to the test what happens when I log-off.....Result..one further click of my mouse to arrive at my Profile page. (My mouse is deliberately programmed for all one click operations.)

A single click of the 'short-cut' desktop icon then brings up the 'Sign-in' page which is already completed ( username and six spots for password) and a further single click takes me to my Profile page. Furthermore, if I hit the 'Report' button in AB, I get a page with a box for comments with my password already printed and unidentifiable as six spots.

I guess I behave a bit like Robina and couldn't care less if anyone has access to my computer....Nothing on it which could be of any real use to them. Anyway, I would be interested to know of all the steps which you have to go through to view and post into AB.

Ron.
ron, I am on IE9 - I click on the short cut to AB, which brings up the sign-in page. I then type my user name in the box and (like you) it auto fills in the password with dots. Click enter, and I'm in. Doesn't sounds like any more steps that you use - but at least I signed out before I closed down.

I don't know how you can say that you don't care if people have access to your computer - have you ever been spammed or hacked?
boxtops....I don't have to type a single letter or digit. Perhaps it's because we are using different browsers.I have Firefox as my default and also have
IE along with Google Chrome and Opera as, shall we say, 'back-ups' if needed. Personally, apart from FF, I don't get on well with any of the others.

I feel sure that if FF was being used by both you and factor 30, there would not be any need to type anything; including a password if reporting a posting. However, you have to type in seven letters, then hit the 'sign-in' button, whereas I am able to do it as an energy saving matter. :-)

To answer your question:- No, I have never been spammed or hacked and, in this regard, I have faith in my Virus Protection which is MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials..which is free.) Also, about once a week/fortnight, I give my computer a 'run-through' with Malwarebytes...the free version.

Ron.
Fine ron - you do it your way, ours suits us, we prefer it that way. We too are highly happy with the setup we have, and run regular security scans. I would rather type my username each time, than not log out of every site every time I shut it down. Each to their own.
I agree boxtops..we must do what suits us.

However, you may be interested in my latest posting.

Thanks for regularly 'putting up with me'...Ron ☺☺☺
