The chinheads weren't an actual band they were only made up for the series of adverts you name, I can at present only remember one of the songs called You've Got The Power by the scottish band Win (on an album called Uh! Tears Baby). Other than this if you leave it with me i'll search the recesses of my mind and music collection i'm sure they'll be in there somewhere.
Came up with another one almost right away - Tinder by Hipsway from the excellent eponymous first album. If I remember correctly it was just the instrumental break in this song and not any of the lyrics that were used.
The song was "Something so right" by The Love Decree

The song was actually titled 'something so real' and was performed by scottish band 'love decree', It was recorded at mayfair studio in london and produced by none other than B A Robertson. Written by Grant Mcintosh and Robin gow, vocalist and keyboard player respectively, The song went on to top at number 63 in the british chart when it was officially released in 1989.

I was a member of the band at the time hence the fine detail!!

How can you be a member of a ficticious band? So, what did you play?
If you read the previous posts you'll see that as you pointed out, The Chinheads were fictitious, but The Love Decree were real, and 47, the member who said they were in the band, was a member of 'The Love Decree' Not that difficult to work out really. Cheers.
Thanks for the sarcasm!

The reason I ask is that I used to know the guys in the band 'Love Decree' and wasn't sure that the poster actually WAS one of the band members!

He can only have been either the drummer, guitarist, percussionist or bass player - or sax player, come to think of it.
Real or otherwise the song was so good that I bought the 12" which has been lost in various house moves! Does anyone know where I can download it or get a copy?
They were very much a real band. And gigged in Edinburgh for many years well into the 90's. I used to play guitar in a band in Edinburgh in the late 1980's and we rehearsed in the Washouse studio in Abbeyhill on Saturday afternoons. One day the Love Decree had booked the 'Blue Room' which was our usual studio and twe had to use the 'Red Room' . They were auditioning a guitarist I believe that day. I even remember their ad in Sound Control looking for a guitarist !!!

I did eventually meet the Love Decree guys at their gig in Ceasars in Aberdeen around 1989. The whole music on stage was sequenced on the keyboards. While it was a good enough show, it lacked the visual punch of a full line up with bass, drums & guitar.

I stopped playing many years ago but our keyboard player Al James still gigs around Edinburgh as a solo act and is a great singer songwriter & has got some CD's out. Do check him out live and on the web.

Al James was only 18 when we played together in that band and was a very very talented player back then and went on to do some stuff with Tennents Live before he went on the road as a solo act.

Good happy times !!!

Love Decree were active and playing gigs in Edinburgh in 1992/3. I remember them playing various gigs around the capital, performing a variety of songs from their CD/EP and a lot of covers of popular singers at the time (Annie Lennox comes to mind). At the time they rented a flat in Polwart. Damned if I remember what Grant and Robin wore to Steve\\\'s party, but my coleague and I went as the Phantom of the Opera and Catwoman. I also saw Grant, I believe, auditioning for the Glasgow heats of X Factor some years ago. Happy carefree times from my youth.
Oops! Missed the 'h' from 'Polwarth'.
Incidentally, Robin Edward Gow has a Facebook Page and Grant was contactable last year at [email protected]
