Our upstairs one needs changing, and I want to do it whilst MrSmow is away lol. (To see how long it takes him to notice when he gets back lol). I've had a quick  look underneath as it seems to be a simple case of loosening this one and putting new one on(which I haven't bought yet btw). Ur for the life of me I cannot see how this one would even come off - it looks as though with all the will in the world these 'screws' etc would not undo!!

Lift up the seat.  Can you see quick release buttons?

Mine just have screws that you take out. You need to make sure the new seat is the right shape!!

Have done so. Usually I found wing nuts rather than screws. Lubricant and a large spanner may help. On the other hand you could pass responsibility for not cracking the bowl by getting a tradesperson in. I have found getting the new one to stay put can be an issue too. One doesn't want to overtighten, but I swear the seat doesn't always fit the holes in the porcelain, even if there's some kind of adaptor; and a seat that moves after a while is most disconcerting.

No quick release buttons, and yes apparently there are 2 shapes of seat - round and oval style?

I take ours off at least once a month for a good clean.  The bits you can't get to when it's attached can get horribly nasty

100% agree Barry!

On the toilet seats i have had they are just held on by a plastic nut and bolt which are easy to change, if they are seized up use a loosener liquid like WD40 or 3in1 oil.

a photo of the underside would help

Presumably the seat's underside 😳

no the bowl underside
