Putting green fence stain over creosote

Has anybody tried to put a green fence stain over a fairly newly creosoted fence? Did it work, or did the oil in the creosote prevent the new stain from adhering?

Mitigating the effect of creosote

Is there anything I can put on top of a creosoted fence to lighten the dark colour? I don't know whether its chemical properties will allow any proporietary light-coloured fence stain to be absorbed...
