sparrowhawk killing a crow

I have just seen a sparrowhawk kill and eat a crow. I have seen them take smaller birds before but surely it must be rare for them to take a bird as big as a crow?

Best before & use by dates

Are these extended when the food is cooked? What I mean is - if something (eg raw chicken) says use by 31st and it is cooked on the 30th, is it safe to eat in its new cooked form for a few days after...
