Pre-Sentence Reports and Magistrates

After a Pre-sentence report a probation officer suggests a sentence to the magistrates. Does anyone know how often they follow the suggestion? Cheers.

If given a custodial sentence for a summary offence, what is the likelyhood of being bailed on appeal? Does this happen? If not, when the appeal is heard and its decided the original sentence was too...

What criteria are used to check to see if you have a record? I guess name, date of birth and place of birth. If then on an application form you fibbed about your date of birth and conveniently left...
