Weird films on syfi channel?

Has anyone else noticed that the syfi channel seems to have the wirdest films on the planet on a constant loop? Is this station tongue in cheek or maybe a haven for failed directors with small budgets...

Goose fat for roast potatoes?

Which body or group are responsible for making up the words that go on to be collective nouns for animals?

What exactly qualifies them and what process do they go through when coming up with a word to describe different groups of animals? The reason i ask this is because some of them sound so ridiculous...
