When you say it "takes forever" how long do you leave it?

It can take about 15 or 20 minutes or more to check for updates after the first install of Windows 7.

There can be hundreds of updates to download.
It can take even longer for the first update Windows first has to check your PC for hardware / software so as to offer you the correct update it does seem at times it's doing nothing plenty of patience is required

From memory there are 725 updates for Windows 7 since it was first launched until this day so you will have to be patient until they are all downloaded and installed . Not all updates will apply to your computer so they will not be downloaded .
