Why do they build up such excitement on doing an episode LIVE? It's been advertised so many times all week, it's absolutely no different to us viewers, it's just the cast who must get stressed, so what is the benefit of doing one?

60th anniversary show.
Don't hink so. Corrie was first broadcast in December 1960 which makes it not quite 55 years old.
...although ITV is 60 years old this week.
What happened to the plane that you heard in one scene but not the next?
If no-one in the cast knows exactly what is going to happen in live episodes how are the subsequent episodes pre-recorded?

Live does not mean improvised.

The cast have their scripts as usual, and rehearse as usual, the only difference is, they go live instead of recording, so in all other ways, things remain the same.

Frankly I am similarly baffled as to why soaps do this from time to time - they don't need to, it doesn't impress the audience to a level commensurate with the skill and timing required to pull it off, so as Ann says, why do they do it?
They took 2 weeks of read throughs dress rehersals etc to get ready for the live show. In their "normal" everyday routine they have just started on ther Xmas storylines.

the aircraft was probably heard while the action was at the rear of coro st it then cut to the front so the noise would be somewhat less depending on where the aircarft was ,but it was there, i no what your talking about i noticed it too, also the sound cock up when Craig was talking,
The live episode of Eastenders was much more dramatic especially Adam Woodyat's acting.
all in all it was the performances was spot on.well done to all,
it makes you wonder if they can do this and get it right first time why does it take so much time to do one shot when its recorded ive seen them filming many times, audrey and fred elliot were opening something and it took 8 takes till the guys at the back of the camera were satisfied ,

I have been on live TV shoots, and there are untold technical glitches which the untrained eye would never see, but the tekkies do see them, and request retakes. So more often than not, the actors are perfect every take, but something else makes it wrong, so everyone does it again.

I watched a scene for Robin Of Sherwood being filmed in the wilds of Bristol, by a river.

The combination of getting the sound perfect - dialogue loud enough to be heard above the sound of the river, but not so loud they were shouting, combined with the lighting - clouds covering and then revealing the sun at unpredictable moments, plus various other tekkie bits, meant a load of retakes, but no discernible change in the way it looked our sounded to my untrained eyes and ears, and as far as I was concerned, there was no difference in the actors' delivery for each and every take, of which there were loads!
I thought it was excellent and the only mistake I noticed was Callum starting to talk when Sarah was a bit slow with her lines !
There was a small technical glitch when Tim and Craig were talking in the kebab shop but we couldn't here them
Thank you for the explanation Andy, you always give good replies. The only reason I was puzzled was because I read on here that the actor playing Callum hadn't 100% known he was leaving which just seemed strange.

Thank you.

He would have known.

All major soap actors are engaged on twelve-month contracts, and if their character is not required, they are told well in advance that their contract will not be renewed.

For the regulars, the contracts roll forward, and they are guaranteed an agreed number of appearances within the contract duration.
I think huge congratulations are due to the cast and crew of Corrie for the live performance - they did extremely well.

Sean has been great as Callum and I am sorry see him go, look forward to hopefully seeing him on TV again.

Not sorry to see the back of Andrea though, she can't act and I hope she never comes back!
