A Day at the Seaside by Vince Hill. Actually, I'm no sure that's who had a hit with it. It sounds different. But that's definitely the song.

Is it a country and western song?
Question Author
I dont know what genre it is,but my wife reckons its from 50s or 60s
I have had a look as well and found zilch.

Your wife is sure that she has the right words? Has she any idea what the song was about. I am not at all knowledgeable about music but some of the others are. But more information is needed :-)

Usually the remembered bits of lyrics asked about on AnswerBank turn out to be quite different from the actual ones- our memories play tricks.

To add - further googling reveals it was one of the songs that competed to represent the UK at Eurovision in 1963. Looks like it was Vince Hill but the version on youtube is a re-recording, so sounds different [to me].

You'll find the lyric you mentioned just after half-way through.
That's an absolutely brilliant find Chinajan, never heard that song before.
Do you ever want to hear it again?
Not really, why are you offering?
I was just wondering if the 'brilliant' was for the detective work of the actual song.

Offering?
I wouldn't inflict that song on the ears of my worst enemy.
^for the find, I hope you don't think I'd find such a song brilliant
erm...no, of course not!

but just suppose I did like it....any idea how could I get it off youtube on to my ipod?

Thank you chinajan, youre a star, thanks to everyone else who tried
It sounds as though it may have been written by the same composer who wrote "Right said Fred" or was it "The Gas man cometh"? Similar jingley tune.
I remember that song ....... jolly little ditty!
